i said yes are from all over the place – with members living everywhere from Bristol to Edinburgh, via Wiltshire. They’ve been described by Noel Gallagher as “Just so annoying,” and take influence from London’s folk scene. But if you forget the tags and look to the music behind the strictly-lowercase name a different and, indeed much more flattering, picture emerges.
‘When The Night Comes In’ is a deliciously warm tangle of melodies, sung almost in a round over laid-back yet upbeat acoustic guitar strumming. The layered vocals give the impression that i said yes could pull off performing this acapella quite comfortably.
But it’s not all about campfire songs. At the other end of the spectrum, the heavily distorted guitars of ‘The Rain And The Snow’ bring out the Bombay Bicycle Club influence that proves this isn’t your typical folk band.
“Pop-infused folk” might just be the perfect definition for i said yes’ sound. And one thing’s for certain: that’s a lot more interesting than an Oasis drone.
